lilac blossoms

"in the dooryard fronting an old farm-house near the white-wash'd palings,
stands the lilac-bush tall-growing with heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
with many a pointed blossom rising delicate, with the perfume strong i love,
with every leaf a miracle -- and from this bush in the dooryard,
with delicate-color'd blossoms and heart-shaped leaves of rich green,
sprig with its flower i break."
walt whitman

the wonder of blossoms fills the air and the eyes as well as the gift-bearing hands of little children!

Wow! Beautiful images. I love lilacs - though - who doesn't? You'd have to be a zombie not to love them.

Thanks, too for the Walt Whitman poem. I've been thinking about him a lot lately, as I walk around DC.

Have a wonderful Tuesday Steven!

I LOVE the smell of lilacs! So fresh and clean and luscious-smelling!! When we lived in Ohio many years ago, that was a common occurrence. Don't think I've experienced that smell since. Hadn't thought about it, even, until I read your post. Thanks for bringing back a very nice memory!

Those lilacs have the deepest hue! Gorgeous! I can just imagine the scent is as heavenly as the color.

Hi Steven,

For some reason I have just found these posts, How did I miss them all???

Just beautiful lilacs...I do love to see exotics- living in the subtropics. I had to buy a pot of tulips at the nursery this week to get my fill of cold weather flowers - they won't last long but are a beautiful novelty.

Happy days

hi delwyn, how did you miss them all? you were busy walking your own beautiful paths of course!!!! since posting those pictures, the lilacs have started to fade and yet even in their faded state they still carry beauty - a lot like people!!! i tried tulips in my garden here but the bunnies nibbled them all up - which makes sense because they know just as well as i do that we share this bit of land with them and whatever they want or need - well who am i to say no?!!
