out the back door

the city is barely awake
as i step out the back door
and watch as a solitary brown leaf
falls from a nearby poplar
drifts through the air
and tumbles across the snow

Your winter pictures are so wonderfully abstract.

ellen it's harder to see colour in the winter. hidden. veiled. there's a layer over everything that transmutes form. i'm glad that comes through! steven

The pics are so beautiful. I feel the stillness and it makes my heart slow down just a little bit. Thanks for that.

The plus side of all this snow is its absolute beauty.

Your frozen pictures look so much like sand, Steven.

Lack of colour is interesting- colour can be so manipulative- like music in films. Winter rather shakes us down to zero, yet, boredom never occurs to us. Your photos as always are curious and cool and make me want to paint.
Also thanks for looking at the bike- We are curious about it... and you are right about Dexter's taste in ale. H is something to sneeze at.

I agree with Linda Sue about the muted colours. Your photos make me want to paint as well. Did you ever think of compiling a book of images and words? It would be inspirational.
