melt

winter
washes itself away
in great brown lakes
as soft as chocolate
and as cold
as tears

It does look like melted chocolate! What an image. Maybe your school yard? So different in texture from the ice crackled paintings the other day.

I'm glad for the approach of spring, but I always feel wistful at the close of winter. (Am I the only one?)

Incredible steven. I take it the swings do not hang over water usually, but that the water has come to the swings.
A melting of words and image...

ruth - this picture was taken in the nearby playground that adjoins some woods. the accumulated snow, and the melting of an oudoor ice rink contrinute to the little lake that appears each spring. yesterday it snowed. it was like experiencing the first snowfall of the season all over again. beautiful. steven

hi titus! the swings normally propel the swingers over a dusty sandy area that is well-used by children and adults alike! all this water will leave over a period of days. steven

Here in California yesterday after a long spell of cold wet weather we've had a crazy outbreak of WARM weather. The daycare staff was hosing down the kids on the playground because they were turning beet red in the heat. The chocolate lake here would be warm, melted hot fudge sauce.

Wish some of the puddles on our lane were chocolate steven.

It's soooo frustrating when the swings are there, nobody using them for once, and there's this huge puddle you'd need hip waders to get through!
glad to see spring is underway, though. i hope to visit your blog more often than i have recently, because it's always a moment of pleasurable calm.
i don't know if you ever do memes, but i'm interested to know what you're reading so i've tagged you over at have genes will travel.
